How did you get here? Describe your career history and background that led you to your role at HorizonOne.

I actually have a background in nursing and started out in recruitment when I approached a recruitment agency to help me find another nursing job. I must have done something right because I ended up working there instead! I started out as a Team Administrator and eventually moved into scribing coordination work, which I absolutely loved.

Then when I was looking for a fresh start, I was approached by Lyndal who asked if I wanted to join herself and Melissa at HorizonOne as part of the Scribing & Campaigns Team. I was then promoted to Senior Consultant just over a year after joining HorizonOne which was really exciting!

What does your role involve?

My role involves the coordination of day-to-day activities undertaken by our scribes and making sure the scribing process is facilitated correctly. This can be anything from meeting with new clients about our scribing services to making sure the completed piece of work is detailed, factually correct and adds value to our client’s recruitment process.

Part of my role is to also assist in the organisation of bulk processes and recruitment campaigns. I was involved in and assisted with the recruitment process undertaken by ACT Fire & Rescue in hiring their new recruits, aka new firefighters. This has definitely been a highlight of my career!

Outside of my duties within the scribing team, I also oversee our internal payroll function, looking after payments for all of our contractors, scribes and the rest of the HorizonOne team.

What do you like best about your role?

Overall, I really love the interaction with our clients and scribes. The interaction used to be a really big challenge for me as I am naturally a quiet person, however over time I’ve come to enjoy this side of my role. Now I love it!

I think it’s also made so much easier by the fact that we have such a fantastic pool of scribes who work with us! Some have been working with Lyndal and Melissa for more than 10 years and others for only 2 months! But they are all very professional and make processes run smoothly. Above that they are also lovely people to work with.

What is the best thing about working with HorizonOne?

The best part about my role would have to be the team that I work with. Somehow, even on the most stressful of days, Lyndal and Melissa are still able to make my role fun! From when I come into the office to when I leave, they are both here to support me, make my day enjoyable and most importantly, have taught me so much during my time here!

The HorizonOne office has really developed a great balance. While the office is highly professional in nature, it still has a laidback vibe with plenty of social and learning events for the whole team.

Overall, it’s a place I want to come to work every day.

What is something you do outside of work others might be surprised by?

I really enjoy going out on a weekend and finding all of the cool new restaurants and bars that have been popping up around Canberra over the past few years, and visiting live music venues – highest score goes to venues that have a fantastic beer garden with live music on the weekend!

I’m also a huge sports fan! AFL in particular, I go for North Melbourne Kangaroos and even though they have been near the bottom of the ladder for the past few seasons, I will always support them.

Who is the biggest stirrer in the office? Got a good example…..?

That’s a tough one, but it has to be David Harrington. He is very professional, very well spoken, and when it comes to stirring the pot, he gets in quickly and with wit.
