Lauren Williams

Senior Finance Officer & Bookkeeper

Describe your career history and background that led you to your role

I grew up in Melbourne and have been living in both Melbourne and Canberra for the last 17 years. People who know me well say that I must have been born a bookkeeper. I have a knack for anything financial, and really appreciate a good spreadsheet.

I’ve crunched the numbers and broadened my finance experience for companies in a variety of industries. I’m passionate about numbers (they don’t lie) to ensure businesses run smoothly, profitably and avoid any fiscal challenges.

What drew you to HorizonOne?

HorizonOne has been growing steadily over the past few years, and is outgrowing some of its systems and processes, so there was an opportunity for me to get involved with improving and building new efficiencies.

I was attracted to the variety that my role offers. On a day-to-day basis, I manage the bookkeeping functions and payroll billing for our H1 team and over 300 contractors. I’m also working on new projects with longer term benefits. This gives me great satisfaction; a super organised financial system, plus the chance to make a difference through future enhancements.

What would you say is different about HorizonOne’s approach to business and the culture?

It’s very people focused. The operations and numbers are important for our leaders, but they know a well-run business is only possible through a positive and content team.

The culture is light-hearted and friendly. People enjoy having a laugh. Collaboration comes naturally, team members are approachable and want others to succeed.

There are plenty of opportunities for people to connect beyond work conversations. There are regular team and social activities that bring out both the competitive and fun nature of our people. It makes a real difference to work productivity when you understand your colleagues on a more personal level.

Outside of work I love to…

Spend time with my family. We have 9 year old twins, so free time is never dull. We travel to Melbourne (when we can) and enjoy the South Coast.

I love being in the garden. My ongoing mission is to grow enough fruit and vegetables to feed our family. Asparagus and garlic have been my recent successes.. I’m definitely the outdoor gardener, I’ve tried to transfer my skills to indoor plants, but we don’t have a happy relationship.

Anywhere outdoors is how I recharge.

What is something people might be surprised to know about you?

Having said that I really enjoy numbers, I do also like being creative. I like to draw in my down time. It’s a therapeutic exercise to do something creative.
