Digital Marketing Coordinator
Describe your career history and qualifications that led you to this role.
I am proudly Canberra born and bred, and living in Sydney for a couple of years just made me appreciate the Canberra lifestyle so much more when I moved back. I grew up here, went to school here and have watched the city grow into such a vibrant place.
I have a background in high end retail, sales management and property marketing. The common thing between all these roles is that they require a people first approach. Being able to communicate and tell stories that resonate with people has always been at the forefront of what I do and it’s what I enjoy the most.
I am halfway through a Master of Marketing at RMIT online, which has been an intense experience with a new subject every 7 weeks. I am just hanging out for that late 2020 finish and graduation!
What drew you to HorizonOne?
I feel like when companies interview candidates, it’s also like a mini role reversal, where the candidate is interviewing the company to assess whether the fit is right for them. For me, I wanted to work somewhere that fostered an inclusive and positive culture. You spend most of your time at work, so a workplace that values its people was going to be a massive plus for me.
One of the questions I was asked in my interview was had I had a look at HorizonOne’s values, and if so, which ones resonated? I’m an organised type of girl, so of course I had scoured the website prior to the interview. Challenge the usual was a big one as it demonstrates a sense of innovation and continuous improvement, along with less talk more listening which works from a bottom up and a top down perspective. Both Andy and Simon spoke to what those values meant to them and to HorizonOne, so it was evident that HorizonOne practices what it preaches.
I also stalked HorizonOne on social media by watching videos, reading blogs and flicking through photos. It seemed like a really awesome team that was involved in the community and took the time to celebrate things like birthdays, office wins, graduations and life goals.
What does your role involve?
I am still learning the ropes, but I’m taking on social media for the corporate brand, helping develop the marketing strategy as well as working with consultants to develop their personal branding for social media.
I also coordinate videos, manage job ads, work on automation to help the consultants boost their productivity and manage a lot of the external and internal communications for the H1 brand.
What would you say is different about HorizonOne’s approach to recruitment / business?
I’ve had experiences with other recruitment companies in the past, mostly with unsatisfying results. I always had a sense that the recruiters were just ‘CV flickers’. In contrast, HorizonOne take the time to get to know candidates so that they can fit them to a role that they will really excel in, making the client happy at the same time.
It might sound cliched, but I feel that HorizonOne literally looks to the horizon to see what’s next. There’s no sense of resting on our laurels. The team is always seeking to improve, which is refreshing. I think this comes from Simon and David, pushing to do better every day.
Outside of work I love to…
Travel! I caught the travel bug and caught it badly! I’m always planning the next overseas holiday to somewhere new. Between vacays, I busy myself by studying, socialising and hanging out with my sister and her kids. While I wouldn’t be what you call outdoorsy, I do try and get to the gym at least a few times a week…cardio is a killer!
I do enjoy drinking wine, and I’m a sucker for all of the good (read: bad) TV shows like the Bachelor.
Who is the biggest stirrer in the office? Got a good example?
Gosh, everyone has their quirks and sense of humour. We’re all up for a laugh so I feel like whatever works in the moment works for everyone.
