How did you get here? Describe your career history and background that led you to your role at HorizonOne.
I grew up in Canberra and studied for a Visual Arts degree at the Australian National University. I moved to Melbourne, partially for a change in scenery, and partially to continue my studies, enrolling in photography at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. I lived in Carlton and could walk to uni every day which was great.
This was pretty idyllic for me – I love the spontaneity of the Melbourne scene and there are always events on, my favourite was Melbourne Fashion Week.
But then COVID happened… I moved back to Canberra to be closer to my family and away from the ongoing lockdowns. Canberra also offers better work opportunities. As I wanted to move into a corporate environment and draw on my previous admin experience, I knew this was the place to do it.
My friend Bonnie has been working at H1 since mid-last year and mentioned there was an opening in the team. I interviewed with Tammy and Andy which was a great experience and given Bonnie’s positive experience, I was sold on the role here!
What does your role involve?
I am responsible for administration within the office and assist Tammy in her role as Office Manager. I answer phones, respond to enquiries, prepare and file paperwork, assist with placements and drafting contracts, and help manage the database.
The work I do supports the recruitment team to help them be efficient, effective and to add real value to our clients and candidates.
I’m still learning! But each day is different, and I’m loving learning new things.
How would you describe Horizonone’s culture?
It’s a really positive and supportive environment. My first few weeks have been made easy because everyone has been really welcoming and always more than was happy to help me out. The team is also really driven. It’s all hands on deck when we need to be, but we can also have a joke and a laugh.
I like the social aspect of the H1 office, and Lucas yelling “Morning!!!” when he gets to work. It’s little things like this that make me enjoy my day.
What do you like best about your role?
I really like learning new things. The sense of accomplishment I get when successfully completing a task for the first time is very rewarding. I also like working closely alongside Tammy, and the opportunity this role gives me to meet new people.
Outside of work I love to…
I usually play netball, but at the moment I’ve injured my knee, so I’m spending more time watching true crime shows on Netflix.
I enjoy walking around the lake with friends and mixing it up when it comes to social activities. I’ve got a group together to go for weekly trivia nights, which has been super fun.
