Marketing & Business Improvements
How did you get here? Describe your career history and background that led you to your role at HorizonOne.
Prior to joining HorizonOne, I worked within the financial services industry for over 10 years. During my first few years in the industry, I worked my way from reception through to a Mortgage Broker, gaining my Diploma in Finance & Management. After a number of years, and once my lovely children came into the picture, I realised that the long hours and weekends required of a Mortgage Broker were no longer for me. Therefore I made the decision to step into the corporate support space of financial services, working in quality assurance and office management.
I really enjoyed the behind the scenes of the office, I found real love for systems administration, process improvements and was able to dip my toes into the marketing side of the business.
When it came to considering my next career step, I really wanted to find a role that would allow me to continue to develop a broad range of skills and offered me a challenging but supportive work environment. Enter HorizonOne…
What drew you to HorzonOne?
I had actually become quite frustrated with searching for a new opportunity. On a whim, I decided to just type “dogs” into the job board search bar as a last-ditch effort thinking maybe the only way I was going to find a job I loved was to become a dog walker! Then to my surprise, an opportunity came up as a Marketing & Business Improvements Officer with HorizonOne. The job ad spoke about the company culture, about their focus on working to make your life better and most importantly, they had a dog-friendly office! As soon as I read it, I knew I wanted to be a part of a business that had such a wonderful working environment and who had values that closely aligned with my own. The job itself sounded really interesting also, I loved that it was a role that supported different parts of the business and would allow me to further develop a broad range of skills and be a part of lots of exciting projects.
What does your role involve?
Lots of learning! I am currently spending a lot of my time getting my head around the different marketing processes and tasks required in my role. This includes things such as social media post creation and scheduling, developing email marketing campaigns, lots of video editing and coordinating upcoming events. I am also really looking forward to getting my teeth into some exciting business improvements projects coming up shortly.
What would you say is different about HorizonOne’s approach to recruitment?
My experiences with recruiters in the past have not been that positive, so when I started researching prior to joining the team, I was keen to understand why H1 has the great reputation it does. It really boils down to a different level of service. The simple things like calling someone back when they say they will is second nature to our consultants. The honest approach to candidates is another way this service shines through. If one of our consultants feels like they can’t help someone, they will tell them. Rather than wasting a candidate’s time and stringing them along, we focus on our specialist subject matter areas of expertise and building relationships with talent there.
Outside of work I love to…
Well, 2 kids under 6 tends to keep me very busy! A lot of my time outside of work is spent running around after them! But when I do get a moment to myself I love going to a great restaurant or to the movies. I have a bit of an obsession with horror movies, the scarier the better!
I am also focussing on my health & fitness at the moment. Trying to get into a good routine with the kids, work and everything else that life throws at me!
Who is the biggest stirrer in the office?
I haven’t witnessed too much stirring just yet… but I definitely have my eyes and ears peeled!
