Bella Jakubiak

Marketing and Brand Manager

What is your work/career background and how has that shaped you for your current role?

I started in marketing roles in my early twenties, while completing my double degree in Psychology and Marketing. I worked in the fast paced and colourful environment of fashion brands, later moving into marketing food (FMCG’s) and restaurants, (which is a great love). This love also led me to running my own catering business for 10 years as a side hustle.

During my career, I’ve been fortunate to experience varied roles in marketing, including content strategy and production, partnerships, brand, events, comms & PR, and social & digital strategy.

When I moved from Sydney to Canberra, I was drawn to HorizonOne’s values – they’re not just words, it’s something they act on. HorizonOne is all about people, and you feel like family.

How are you most looking forward to making a difference over the next year?

The scarcity of quality candidates is a big challenge in the Canberra market. I’m driven to come up with innovative and creative ideas on how we can find the rare and special (unicorns) people to join our client’s teams.

I’ll be focused on digging deep into the drivers of candidate behaviour – this will help to find where they are, to understand their motivations, and use the right messages to encourage action.

I’m looking forward to drawing on my marketing experience to contribute to solutions for our clients and candidates.

What do you like best about your role?

I enjoy the variety; every day can present a new chance to solve a challenge for our clients and candidates. I like creating messages, be it words, visual design or video that will appeal to the diverse clients and candidates that we communicate with.

I also gain a lot of satisfaction helping our consultant team use the different tools we have, such as video, to communicate. HorizonOne is focused on developing their team members and it’s great to be able to contribute.

HorizoneOne values their people, and this shows through the flexibility for family, social team events or an impromptu wine tasting before heading off for the weekend.

Do you have a claim to fame?

Once upon a time ago I worked in television – both behind and in front of the cameras. My sister Sammy and I won My Kitchen Rules in  2011, and since then we have done multiple stints as the faces and voices of brands across the country.

We also created our very own TV show – Kitchen Rescue – which aired on Netflix internationally and Network 10 locally for 2 seasons. I’m especially proud of this, as we lead this project from end to end, including pitching, raising funds, producing, and marketing the show. It was an exhausting year of my life, but one of the best!

Who is the biggest stirrer in the office?

My vote is for an underdog – Tom Michael. He’s very Irish and has a wicked (and very dry) sense of humour.
