Senior Administrator - People Solutions
Describe your career history and qualifications that led you to this role.
I’ve spent much of my career working in various administrative and operational roles in the vocational education and training sector. For over 10 years, I worked for a private registered training organisation. I started out in a general administrative role, before moving up as the Administration and Finance Manager, and then finally the Operations Manager.
As HR was always an element of these roles that I thoroughly enjoyed, I completed a non-accredited HR course in my spare time. When I was ready to explore new career opportunities, I met with Sarah Tamasi at HorizonOne to discuss general administrative roles. To be honest, I didn’t think HR was a possibility given my limited experience, but I was thrilled when she suggested an internal role with the Scribing and Campaigns team.
What drew you to HorizonOne?
The number one requirement in my job search was finding an organisation that was the right cultural fit. I didn’t know much about recruitment, but I recognised the HorizonOne brand, and some friends who’d previously used HorizonOne’s services gave them really positive feedback.
After meeting with some of the team and looking into the organisation’s online presence, it was clear that HorizonOne ticked all the boxes. I got a good vibe from everyone It was clear the organisation focused on quality, personal service rather than chasing quick wins.
What does your role involve?
I’d done a lot of work with government previously, so I knew generally about scribing, bulk recruitment rounds and graduate programs, but there’s so much more involved than I thought.
In the day to day, I support Lyndal and Mads to manage bulk recruitment processes and graduate programs. I assist with timesheets, invoicing, reference checking, and any other work that needs to be done to support our team of scribe consultants.
I’m really enjoying getting to know the whole scribing and campaigns side of HorizonOne. It’s been a big learning curve and the work is interesting. I thrive in a busy and fast paced environment which is great because every day here is different and we are all kept very busy! I also really love getting to know our scribe consultants and clients.
What would you say is different about HorizonOne’s approach to recruitment and business?
I approached several recruitment agencies to help me find the right job and HorizonOne was the first recruitment agency to even get back to me. I got the impression that HorizonOne take more of a personable approach. Sarah really took the time to get to know more about me and my ambitions which made me feel valued. It’s refreshing to see that time is invested in understanding candidates so the H1 consultants are able to place them in positions that are actually right for them.
From the start, I could also tell everyone in the team is happy, which goes a long way to speaking of the kind of office environment and values the business has. There’s also a lot of support for the staff. We are encouraged to attend social events and take part in charity work; it’s all these elements that make it really attractive for someone to work here.
The Scribing and Campaigns team is great to be part of. Everyone has been incredibly supportive and welcoming. They work hard however there’s still time for a bit of a laugh and a chat.
Outside of work I love to…
Do anything outdoors! I like hiking, bike rides, trips to the beach, having beers in the sun with friends and generally hanging out with the fam. I also love cooking and experimenting with new recipes. I particularly enjoy baking, but I definitely need more practice.
Who is the biggest stirrer in the office? Got a good example?
It’s a bit too early to say, and it’s especially hard at the moment when we’re all working from home. I’ll be able to tell you more once we’re back in the office. In our scribing and campaigns team, Mads definitely comes out with some good one-liners.
