Simon is the Founder of HorizonOne and after 15 years at the helm of HorizonOne, his days are now focused more on specific leadership areas.
These include nurturing long-term partnerships, identifying strategic growth opportunities and building new solutions and tools for team operations. He’s passionate about progression; and leading the ongoing learning and development initiatives across the business.
Born in Geelong (go the Cats!), Simon grew up locally and for over two decades has consulted across many of Canberra’s most prominent organisations. He prides himself on the loyal, long-term relationships built on trust that the business has thrived upon. He founded HorizonOne in 2008 after identifying a gap in the market for a consultative and value-add focused approach to solving recruitment challenges. Simon is passionate about the recruitment profession and driving new levels of professionalism across the industry. He represents the ACT region on the RCSA (The Recruitment, Consulting & Staffing Association) NSW/ACT Council.
A naturally hard working and creative character, Simon’s values-led approach quickly attracted quality talent to join him in the business. The team has since grown organically from a handful of staff to a diverse team of more than 35.
Building a great place to work has always been central to HorizonOne’s mission. Simon loves fostering the capabilities of high performers, people who genuinely care about the role they have in changing lives.
Now with a young family, Simon has transitioned to a part time role with HorizonOne. He is currently very excited to be implementing a whole of business learning and development framework, which will further boost HorizonOne’s consulting capabilities and provide first class development opportunities for the team.
When he’s not working, Simon is very busy with two kids under six and getting back to nature whenever he can. You’ll often find him fly-fishing in the mountains, bobbing down an estuary at the South Coast, or exploring a new hiking trail.
If you asked me to distil HorizonOne’s origin down to a single founding principle (or the vibe, as Daryl from The Castle would put it), ‘Recruitment Karma’ would have to be it.
You have a job opening, and need to fill it fast. Problem is, you’re also really busy – so you hastily pull together a job brief and send it out to a bunch of recruiters. Then you wait for the CVs to flow in and hope to find a good match.
