The Opportunity

The Work Health & Safety Officer is an integral member of the team and works closely with the Executive to ensure the Safety Management System is well executed and aligned with the company’s Strategic Plan. The role is well suited to a construction WHS specialist looking to work in a successful, stable and mature business environment where they can apply their expertise across a broad range of projects nationally.

The Role

The WHS Officer is responsible for ensuring that Village Building Company’s WHS process and procedures are upheld and followed across all construction sites, as well their unique site the Big Banana fun park in Coffs Harbour! In addition, you will provide up to date, expert advice and support to project managers, senior management, employees, and contractors.

Your major responsibilities and tasks include:

  • Collaborate and engage with the CEO, Board and Executive Team to ensure the outcomes of the Safety Management System are aligned with the Strategic Plan
  • Site safety audits and inspections, including the Big Banana fun park
  • Conducting site inductions
  • Maintaining appropriate registers and databases
  • Implementing WHS policies and procedures
  • Identifying hazards and conduction risk analysis
  • Working with sub-contractors, staff, suppliers, and government organisations such as WorkSafe and WorkCover

Your Background and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will be a WHS Specialist within the construction/building industry. You will have relevant qualifications (minimum Diploma) in WHS and a deep understanding of health and safety legislation as it applies to the property sector.

You will be a strong planner with the ability to project manage a comprehensive range of audits and risk assessments in line with strategic and risk planning. You have a continuous improvement focus and will enjoy fostering continuous improvement initiatives across all WHS functions.

You have an adaptable, flexible approach to your work and are able to learn new material and adapt to challenges like Big Banana ride safety.

This opportunity is ideal for those looking for flexible, part-time hours of around three days per week. Potentially you are later in your career seeking balance or working around family responsibilities and seeking part time. Alternatively, you may have another workplace that you provide specialist WHS services to on a part time basis and you are seeking a second role.

Salary / Rate

  • $140K – $150K Package (pro rata)
  • Free parking
  • Three days per week (flexible)
  • This position is located at the head office in Mitchell, Canberra
