About St Vincent de Paul Society
The St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn (the Society) is a non-government, not-for-profit community organisation has a strong history helping the community since 1924. The Society helps people in need, regardless of their creed, ethnic or social background, health, gender, or political opinion.
The Society runs many great programs in addition to their 27 retail outlets across the region, including programs for the homeless, mental health programs, family programs, disaster recovery programs (e.g. bushfire recovery assistance). They also offer multiple shelters, and a night patrol.
The Society has an active and engaged community of 2,500 volunteers, 625 members, and 170 staff.
Reporting directly to a highly experienced CFO, this newly created position will provide you with the opportunity to increase the organisation’s impact on the Canberra and Goulburn region by helping the Society realise its mission of shaping a more just and compassionate society.
You’ll be working with an energetic and dedicated team at head office in Yarralumla (~70 staff on site) who are passionate about the Society’s vision and mission. The staff come together to achieve outcomes, do meaningful work, and head home at the end of the day knowing they really have made a difference in the lives of many.
The Society has a mature approach to work/life balance, offering flexibility when you need it and a central location that enjoys free parking.
This full-time role is a critical and broad financial management position. You will lead an established accounting team of 5 to both deliver the finance function but also provide key insights to the organisation and strategic advice. For example, you will advise on revenue stream diversification options and be highly involved in an ambitious 10 year Capital Strategy.
Given the size of organisation, being hands on and nimble in approach is critical to success in the role (i.e. being an enabling force in the organisation and willing to chip in wherever required), however key responsibilities will include:
- Budget and forecast planning, coordination and reporting, plus managing and forecasting cashflow, and preparing annual statutory reports
- Internal management financial reporting and variance reporting
- Managing the Society’s investments
- Liaising with external and internal auditors and banks
- Preparing business cases, project plans, response documents, grants and tenders that support business and growth
- Managing the financial framework policies and procedures and maintaining the financial risk register
- Managing the finance team resources including performance and delivery of finance deliverables
Your Background and Experience
You are a seasoned finance professional with CA/CPA qualifications and demonstrated experience leading a finance function and team. Whilst those with an NFP finance background will be highly regarded, accountants with strong tax firm experience will also be well regarded. From that experience, you will be able to provide sophisticated advice to the Executives and Board on a range of finance and corporate matters.
You are at a stage in your career where you are looking to give back to society and the wider community through impactful, cause-based work. You like to be hands on with end to end finance but also like the ability to achieve outcomes through your team who you will coach and mentor. You understand that NFP entities require the team to chip in, collaborate, and help each other out. You are driven and looking for a chance to genuinely make a difference every single day.
Salary / Rate
A strong salary package will be offered to the successful candidate commensurate with experience (full PBI benefits available) + 11% Super. There is also free onsite parking.
