EL1 Communications & Community Engagement Manager

The Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide is inquiring into systemic issues and common themes related to defence and veteran death by suicide, including the possible contribution of pre-service, service, transition, separation and post-service issues.

It is being conducted independently of Government and is being informed by individual experiences of defence members, veterans and their families and support networks.

The Royal Commission will make recommendations, including recommendations about any policy, legislative, administrative or structural reforms.

The Opportunity

This is a long-term EL1 contract opportunity in the Communications and Community Engagement Section of the Operations Branch. You can be engaged in a labour hire contract until 17/6/2024.

The Role

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Implement a program of best practice community and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Work closely with team members/Director to deliver the Community Engagement Strategy for the Commission
  • Work within a team to develop communication materials to support community engagement and stakeholder events
  • Ensure all communication is fit for purpose, accessible and draws out key content for the Commission
  • Draw on expertise to implement a trauma-informed approach to community engagement
  • Evaluate and report on two-way feedback obtained through stakeholder engagement activities
  • Demonstrate agility and resilience in response to changing demands and a high workload
  • Manage the event and venue coordination for community outreach and stakeholder engagement
  • Collaborate with others from outside immediate work area in response to organisational needs and internal communications
  • Provide leadership help and support to junior officers

Your Background and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience implementing multi-platform communications strategies, including the development of user-focused online forums, face to face engagement, event planning and two-way feedback reporting.

You will also have the following key skills and competences:

  • Manages risk by gathering and critically analysing information, and clearly communicating risks and benefits
  • Keen understanding of the communications landscape to support best practice government engagement strategies
  • Sustains high levels of productivity following setbacks and during periods of uncertainty
  • Takes responsibility for timely delivery of individual and team outcomes
  • Leadership and effective communication skills, including the ability to confidently communicate requests and instructions to individuals and groups
  • Highly developed time management skills, with an ability to multi-task and work to deadlines
  • Experience working with sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, solve problems, manage and meet deadlines and maintain a high quality of work with limited supervision
  • Demonstrate agility and resilience in response to changing demands and a high workload

To be eligible for this role you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen
  • Be willing to undergo a police check
  • Have a Baseline security clearance or the ability to obtain one

Salary / Rate

  • $65 – $85/hr + 10% super
  • Contract through until 17/6/2024
  • Office is located in Circular Quay
  • Interstate and intrastate travel may be required
