POSTED 16th Apr, 2019 REF NO. BBBH8404
This is an opportunity to join a medium sized Department where you can really align with the values of the organisation and the impact their work has for Australian communities.
The small team you will be joining is a research based team within the APS who is using data to help answer complex social problems.
This is an interesting long term opportunity to join a small high-performing team that is:
A) leading the development and implementation of the department’s data management strategy to support a culture of evidence-based policy,
B) showcasing the rigorous, strategic and empirical research on complex social problems affecting whole education systems that can be achieved through (longitudinal) data integration and cross-portfolio collaboration.
The project you are working on will support current reforms in the health, social employment and education portfolios and will engage with policy areas delivering those reforms. This project also supports broader Data Integration Partnership for Australia/Australian Bureau of Statistics priorities to inform policy decision making through data integration.
In this 12 month non ongoing position you will be part of the development and implementation of the department’s Data Management Strategy and represent the department at the Data Integration Partnership for Australia.
The program of work you be doing may involve reviewing data assets, working across the department to build a data management community of practice across the department, implementing new data policies, and undertaking complex statistical analysis for our clients such as multi-variate statistical analysis or causal inference testing.
In addition, you will support the general work of the Data Management and Analytics team by writing reports, briefs and managing staff and projects.
This role will suit you if you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to apply your qualitative research and analysis skills in an APS context. You will be bringing a fresh perspective on how to approach research and analysis.
You have the ability to communicate complex concepts or research findings to general audiences and you are proficient in R, STATA or SAS.
You have experience managing or working on research projects with a demonstrated understanding and application of statistical methods and experimental techniques. You are experienced in using integrated and longitudinal data.
You are likely to have technical experience delivering on quantitative research projects and possibly experience in using experimental design and causal inference statistical techniques.
A baseline security clearance is desirable but not mandatory. However Australian Citizenship is a must.
