This organisation plays a crucial role in safeguarding Australia’s international interests through strategic cyber security initiatives. Within their Information Management and Technology Division, the Cyber Outreach and Strategy Section drives impactful training and awareness programs. This team is dedicated to elevating cyber security maturity across the organisation by creating a culture of awareness and proactive risk management.

You’ll be joining a high-performing team known for its strategic approach and close collaboration with key stakeholders. The Opportunity

This role is for a Cyber Security Training Officer who is ready to take the lead in designing and delivering high-impact cyber security awareness programs. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the security culture of a key government agency, influencing how information security is perceived and practiced across the organisation.

The Role

In this role, you will be a key member of the Cyber Outreach and Strategy Section, contributing to the strategic maturity of DFAT’s Cyber Security branch. You will create and deliver engaging cyber security training sessions and awareness programs, ensuring that stakeholders at all levels understand and practice effective information security.

Your work will be central to fostering a culture of cyber resilience, influencing how security is perceived and embedded across the organisation. You will engage with senior executives, policy makers, and technical specialists, providing clear and impactful training that aligns with strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver comprehensive cyber security awareness training and briefings
  • Review and enhance existing training packages to ensure they are relevant and impactful
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand training needs and tailor content accordingly
  • Lead and participate in outreach activities, including campaigns, events, and strategic briefings
  • Communicate complex security concepts clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences
The Ideal Person

You are a dynamic cyber security professional who is passionate about education and communication. You have a knack for translating complex security concepts into engaging, relatable content that resonates with non-technical audiences. You are strategic, creative, and thrive in environments where you can influence cultural change.

You have a proven track record in designing and delivering effective cyber security training programs. Your background in learning delivery (ETDL Level 4) enables you to create impactful educational experiences. You are skilled at stakeholder engagement, and you understand how to tailor your communication style to suit different audiences, from technical specialists to senior executives.

You enjoy working collaboratively within a high-performing team and are motivated by the opportunity to influence strategic security awareness initiatives. You are looking for a role that allows you to leverage your creativity and strategic thinking to make a meaningful impact on cyber security culture.

Salary / Rate
  • $110/hr – $140/hr incl. Super
  • Contract position with potential for extension
  • 5 days in office for the first 2 months, then up to 3 days in office + 2 days from home
  • Must hold an active NV1 security clearance
