Chief Operating Officer - Canberra Racing Club
The Canberra Racing Club (CRC) is a community-orientated organisation responsible for thoroughbred horse racing in the ACT. The club conducts 25 race meetings each year including the ACT’s premier races; the Black Opal Stakes and the Canberra Cup.
In addition to the 25 races, CRC hosts a range of events throughout the year including conferences, festivals and corporate development days. Situated right on the corner of Flemington Road and the Federal Highway, CRC is about to embark on an exciting period of growth and development across its 4 major offerings of; racing & the racecourse, sponsorship & marketing, catering & events and CRC memberships.
This is an opportunity to elevate the sponsorship, marketing and events side of the business. An ambitious COO will look at this as a chance to grow into a key leadership role in CRC, working closely with the CEO to expand the operations.
The role combines strategy, entrepreneurship, account development and the opportunity to build new products and services from the ground up in line with CRC’s strategic plan.
The goal of the COO position will be to secure the functionality of the business and to drive extensive and sustainable growth. You will be able to demonstrate a high level of strategic thinking and able to formulate an appropriate level of business planning in line with the company strategy.

As COO you will be required to maintain control of CRC’s diverse operations, therefore, you must be an experienced and efficient leader, have excellent people skills, business acumen, and work ethics.
As COO your key accountabilities will be:
- Overseeing daily operations of the club and the work of the executives
- Designing and implementing business strategies, plans, and procedures
- Leading employees, encouraging development
- Managing relationships with sponsors and clients
You’ll have previous success in COO/GM or a relevant role and have a strong understanding of a variety of business functions. This will include HR, marketing, sponsorship, and catering as well as competency in strategic planning and business development.
You will enjoy the creative side of the role, in seeking new business opportunities and wider avenues for revenue generation and you will want to be a part of a growth project where you will be able to see the results of your successes.
Naturally, this is an active and diverse work environment, where thoroughbred horses are part of the norm. You will also benefit from working on the edge of the city, with free car parking and easy access to the light rail.
Knowledge of the racing industry is preferred but not essential.
$110,000 – $120,000 + Super
