APS6 Policy Officer

The Organisation

Our client is a vital member of Australia’s national security community, working across the full spectrum of operations required of contemporary intelligence and security agencies, with a great emphasis on cyber security, in support of the Australian Government and the Australian Defence Force.

The Opportunity

This is a 12 month contract opportunity working within a newly formed cyber security policy team. The role will provide you the opportunity to:

  • Work for an established, sought after and highly influential Commonwealth agency
  • Report to a high performing and supportive EL1 Cyber Tech Expert
  • Work with wide reaching networks with regular inter-agency communication
  • Benefit from ongoing professional development and permanency options

The Role

You will join a team that is responsible for a range of cyber technology projects and programs within federal government. Specifically, you will:

  • Provide pure policy writing support to the team
  • Be the first line of response to answering policy questions and queries in a governance and compliance environment
  • Formulate high quality and specific written policy responses, which will be sent for approval before being implemented
  • Write and format broader, bigger pieces of policy work relating to cyber technology

Your Background and Experience

To be successful in this role you won’t require technical cyber experience. Rather, you will:

  • Likely have a legal, academic, consulting or public service background, which will have given you exemplary writing skills
  • Be a self-starter that enjoys working autonomously
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s qualification to support your practical experience
  • Exhibit effective problem solving and judgement skills
  • Possess exceptional oral communication and stakeholder engagement skills

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen
  • Be willing to undergo a police check
  • Have a Baseline security clearance

Salary / Rate

  • $55 – $70 per hour + 9.5% Super
  • 12 month contract with possible extensions
