APS6/EL1 Internal Budgets

This newly created Commonwealth Department will be the epicentre of the recently elected Labor Government’s new policy agenda, with significant mandates for driving once-in-a-generation change. They have already attracted some of the best SES in the Commonwealth, including a leading CFO known for building high performing teams and supportive/positive work cultures. As a key member of the inaugural finance team, you’ll be solving interesting, complex financial problems and contributing to a big investment in Australia’s future.

The Opportunity

These roles are available as permanent s26 transfer opportunities (or non-ongoing salaried contracts with view to permanency) and are based in a centrally located Canberra office. The positions offer the opportunity to work closely with some of the most highly regarded finance professionals in the Commonwealth.
You’ll be led by SES officers and Directors with a strong track record of respecting and investing in the corporate function, as well as fostering top level talent toward exceptional careers. The Role

Your role will include:

  • Administering the internal budget process to ensure all resource allocation decisions are well documented and correctly reflected in the FMIS
  • Assessing resource bids and developing recommendations to assist with resource allocation decisions
  • Resolve funding issues for projects and initiatives and provide financial reports for the projects
  • Providing concise and targeted monthly management reports and highlighting the financial performance of the agency and its Directorates
  • Advising business areas including senior executive’s financial management related matters, including but not limited to PGPA Act and accounting standards
  • Monitoring the financial performance and advising, verbally and in writing, the Manager, Budgets & Systems and internal stakeholders including senior executives on financial drivers and cost management options

The Ideal Person

You will be a high performing CA/CPA qualified Management Accountant with strong problem solving skills and the ability to navigate the ‘grey’ areas. You will work closely with your team to develop internal budgets and reporting function and ensure the business is provided with meaningful insight and analysis to facilitate decisions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are equally important, as being able to work within the team will be critical to your success in this role.

Applicants MUST be Australian Citizen and have the ability to obtain an AGSVA baseline security clearance.

Salary / Rate

  • $80K – $115K + Super or salary match for existing APS employees
