APS6 Assistant Finance Manager (Management Accounting)
Our client is a small statutory authority with an emphasis on regulation and are located on the North Side of Canberra. They fall under a sought after Federal Government Department’s portfolio.
This is a non-ongoing contract role for up to 6 months working as part of a small and friendly team, where there is a good opportunity for a permanent appointment and career progression. With offices across Australia including in Canberra and major cities, there are opportunities to travel interstate.
Whilst those with experience in management accounting in a small to medium sized Commonwealth Government Agency will be highly regarded, those outside the Public Service will be considered, particularly those experienced in budgeting, forecasting, and communicating financials to non-financial stakeholders. Should you be coming from outside the Public Service, this is an opportunity to work with a high performing CFO and Deputy CFO who will give you training, guidance, and mentorship as you commence a Government career.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking for flexible/part time working arrangements, and also presents as a potential s.26 transfer for a strong performer already in the APS.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build good working partnerships with business areas by providing trusted advice
- Assist and lead certain month end accounting processes, including preparing journals and reconciliations
- Drafting monthly reports to key stakeholders that will influence decision making
- Assist with the coordination of divisional input to external reporting requirements
- Provide advice to key senior stakeholders based on research/analysis of financial results
You are a person who is enthusiastic, communicative, and enjoys working with others to kick goals. You are known for having excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy building relationships with stakeholders. You enjoy understanding and telling the story behind the numbers and you are motivated by making a difference and love being in a role where the results of your work are of national interest.
Relevant degree qualifications are essential. Experience with Government accounting frameworks will be well regarded however strong performers from outside government will be considered.
A Baseline Security clearance will be required and so current Australian Citizenship is mandatory.
