APS5 Regulatory Intelligence Analyst

The Fair Work Ombudsman is an independent statutory agency whose role is to act as the central point of contact for free advice and information on the Australian national workplace relations system, investigating workplace complaints and to enforce compliance with national workplace laws.

The Opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to and lead different investigation types, depending on Branch priorities. This is an excellent opportunity for policing or investigations professionals to utilise their skills and transition into a career in the APS.

  • Secure an initial 6-month contract with likely extension
  • Excellent career opportunity for a police officer or candidates familiar with government investigations to transition into the APS
  • This contract is based in Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide with flexible working from home arrangements

The Role

This position makes a critical contribution to safeguarding the integrity of Australian businesses and their employee entitlements. You will be a valued member of a highly responsive and contemporary regulatory investigations team, contributing to the implementation of intelligence activities and generating outcomes that have direct impact.

Intelligence Analysts work with a high level of autonomy and ensure the team produces high quality work. You will be responsible for the following:

  • Analyse, integrate, and evaluate information to produce accurate and informative intelligence reports for treatment
  • Conduct formal and informal discussions with staff, customers and third parties to obtain required information
  • Contribute to changes in workplace practices and process improvements
  • Provide administrative support for the team
  • Update databases and to assist with developing a robust intelligence store
  • Use a range of analytical tools to assist in producing tactical intelligence reports

Your Background and Experience

Your will ideally have regulatory intelligence, fraud or criminal investigations experience. You must have an unbiased attitude in your investigative approach with operators, and be able to influence and lead by example exercising a great degree of empathy in the execution of your role.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Knowledge or experience in industrial relations or workplace laws (desirable, but not essential)
  • Demonstrated experience in investigations or intelligence
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, and proven track record succeeding in complex and rapidly changing environments
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills, and ability to produce briefings and reports
  • An understanding and knowledge of Australian workplace legislation, and the Fairwork Act 2009and its impact on individuals and businesses

Salary / Rate

  • APS5: $48-$55/hr + 10% super
  • Note: this hourly rate includes casual leave loading in lieu of annual and sick leave
  • 6-month contract with strong extension prospects

The successful candidate will be required to be an Australian citizen and have (or be able to obtain and maintain) a Baseline security clearance.
