APS5-EL1 Policy Officers
HorizonOne Recruitment is a leading specialist recruitment firm in Canberra that works with a range of highly sought after federal government departments and agencies. We reverse traditional recruiting models so you are the focus of our recruiting efforts – we tailor our service to ensure we find you the best possible fit.
HorizonOne has a consistent flow of policy roles available. These contracts range from short term (3 months) to long term (12 months or more). It is very common for high performing candidates to receive repeated extensions on their contracts or even secure permanency in the APS.
With a range of positions regularly available, we are seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified candidates due to placing a large majority of or active and registered candidates.
The responsibilities of each position vary, but as a policy officer, you will be required to:
- Prepare quality policy advice that aligns with the department/agency’s strategic objectives for various decision-making bodies, senior management and other decision makers
- Prepare government briefing documents including question time briefs, senate estimates briefs, media releases and ministerial submissions
- Engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders to support the development of informed, strategic policy advice and the achievement of desired outcomes.
To be successful as a policy officer, you will have strong research, analytical and conceptual thinking skills to produce high quality and timely policy advice. You’ll have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build productive and collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You’ll exercise sound judgement, work to tight deadlines, manage workloads and be flexible in responding to changing priorities.
Australian citizenship and a minimum baseline security clearance are required to apply.
