Laying the foundations

An exciting and incredibly demanding time for the founders, we focussed on business plans and budgets, securing funding, and building the systems and infrastructure of a mature business.

2008 – 2009

Global Financial Crisis (GFC)

We couldn’t have asked for tougher economic conditions to kick off the business. With crickets chirping in the employment market and redundancies abundant, we focussed attention on building long term relationships whilst committing time to developing best practice infrastructure.

Re-focus and refined direction

We simplified the business ownership and Board level governance allowing the Founders the freedom to refocus HorizonOne on its core values and the central tenets of the business plan. Looking back, this was a pivotal moment laying the foundation for the success to follow.

David Harrington arrives

Returning to Australia after 11 years spent in the UK as the General Manager for a successful medium sized recruitment firm, David rapidly accelerated towards equity partner status in 2012 and is now a lynchpin of the business.

Tough year in recruitment

The 2013 Financial Year proved very tough for recruitment companies in NSW and the ACT with 41% of companies trading at a loss. With the added complexity of Canberra’s recruitment freeze in the mix, HorizonOne bunkered down whilst working hard to maintain profitability. We passed the test with flying colours!

Resurgence

Following 12 months of the Commonwealth recruitment freeze and a new Government taking a while to find its feet, finally the market opens up with a surge of new work in the contractor space which stimulates strong overall recruitment activity.
