Opportunity to work with a diverse organisation to provide financial advice to facilitate decision making.

This Federal department performs a critical function. Their portfolio is high profile, and the work is complex and engaging.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant to gain entry into the Federal Government or for an existing APS employee to transition to another department and expand their skills. You’ll be working with a supportive Director and Assistant Director who will help you further develop and grow your career in the APS.

These are non-ongoing 12-month contracts with a strong possibility of permanency, as they are filling vacant positions.

Within a small team in a large Federal department, you will be part of the budget team, gaining valuable experience and exposure across the organisation. Strong performers will be rewarded with acting opportunities and promotions.

The Role

These positions sit within a small team, reporting to the Assistant Director.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analysing financial data and providing financial advice to executives
  • Coordinating budget exercises and reviews
  • Managing budgeting and financial reporting for the department
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial management performance reports for executives
  • Preparing content for Executive Financial Reporting (EFR) and Senate Estimate Briefs
  • Contributing to briefs and responses to parliamentary and inter-agency queries
  • Conducting financial performance analysis as required
The Ideal Person

You are an energetic accountant or finance officer with a strong understanding of budgeting. Good communication and writing skills are essential, along with very good reading ability.

Candidates should also possess curiosity, eagerness to learn, accompanied by strong research skills and analytical skills. Attention to detail and numeracy, coupled with the ability to understand and apply financial and budget management policies, are essential.

Prior experience with TM1 is preferred, but a willingness and capacity to learn budget systems is equally valued.

Salary / Rate

$90k – $107k + 15.4% Super
